PHONICS
We teach Phonics and Early Reading using a synthetic phonics programme called Read Write Inc (RWInc). Read Write Inc is a holistic approach to Literacy that teaches Phonics in the context of reading and writing.
Read Write Inc is taught daily in EYFS and Key Stage 1, building up to a full hour each day. Pupils are grouped together according to their reading stage, which means the teacher can pitch the learning at exactly the right level for them and make sure they are challenged.
Learning
Your child will learn their ‘Set 1’ sounds in Reception and will learn to ‘blend’ sounds to read words and ‘segment’ words to spell them. Every child in Reception and KS1 will bring a decodable book home and a Reading for Pleasure book to enjoy with their families. We believe that it is essential for children to enjoy reading at school and home. We send links and QR codes home for pupils to watch short films that practice the sounds they are taught at school. These links are updated regularly. They are great fun and a supportive way to improve their decoding skills.
